Birdlip and Brimpsfield WI

The speakers available through the WI covers a diverse range of topics. At our July meeting we had an informative talk by author Glenn Slater. Having been a Chartered Surveyor for many years he writes crime thriller adventure stories using the pseudonym Simon Fairfax. He regaled us with a colourful account of his research. This included visiting the places he writes about; firing the weapons and rehearsing the fight sequences, to ensure that his novels are plausible. We’re not sure that many of us will be following in his footsteps but it was an enjoyable meeting and made us aware of the meticulous planning and preparation required to produce a book worthy of publication.

Other activities included a group walk around Birdlip on one of the hottest days of the year. Fortunately, most of the walk was in the partial shade of trees.  Films viewed by the cinema group included ‘Yesterday’ and ‘Sometimes Always Never’.

In September our group will be travelling on the recently extended Gloucestershire Warwickshire (Steam & Diesel) Railway from Cheltenham Racecourse to Broadway.Next meeting: Wednesday 4th September. Approximate time 10.30am Cheltenham Race Course Station. (Exact details to be confirmed nearer the date)

We welcome visitors (£3.00) and our secretary Denise is happy to answer any questions phone 01453 766222. Please add dates to any diary or lists published for future months -  Wednesday 4th September Cheltenham Race Course Railway Station. (Time to be confirmed).
